Brief History

I have been teaching since 1990 and I have taught in a range of settings including Inner City schools, Military Base Schools and schools in towns and villages. I am leading my second school as a Head Teacher and have been in my current school for eight years.

Interests and Specialisms

I am an experienced Head Teacher  in both small and large settings and my leadership has been judged as Outstanding by Ofsted in two very different schools over time. I have taught across the primary age range a number of times and have a very good understanding of teaching and learning. I have also been a leader of most curriculum subjects. I have been a school SENCO for many years as well as a core subject leader when required.

I am able to support schools in a range of areas and through a coaching approach aim to empower schools to build their confidence and their own unique and effective approach.

Summary of School:
East-the-Water is a large primary with two form entry, having presently 400 pupils and 84 staff. The school has recently increased in size due to popularity within community. Our outstanding early years provision in our foundation stage unit includes 2 year olds.
I lead a large team at East-the-Water Primary who specialise in SEN, Inclusion, Behaviour Management, ITT, Leadership, PE, Language Communication and Literacy. Our established team specialise in language and communication and SEN led by our very experienced SENCO. We also provide a successful outreach service for hearing impaired pupils across North Devon led by our Teacher of the Deaf and our four BSL signing Teaching Assistants. Teachers and specialised Teaching Assistants are skilled in developing and delivering excellent intervention making impact on all pupils.
Biography:
I have worked successfully as a Headteacher for 12 years in 3 very different schools including a small rural village school and a large city infant school, judged to be outstanding. I relocated to North Devon in 2008, taking up my present position. I have successfully supported challenges and removed barriers for East-the-Water Primary increasing provision for the local community. In 2008, the school moved in and out of special measures, having a total roll of 150 pupils.
My career has maintained a focus on the important contribution early years education makes on children’s love of learning. I have over the years increased my passion for early years education ensuring the highest expectation is reached within settings. I have established three successful nurseries from scratch in other authorities as well as Devon. This includes Little Skippers, our fully integrated foundation stage unit at East-the-Water Primary. I also specialise in early literacy, developing leaders, working with stakeholders in the community and whole school behaviour management. I have positive experience of supporting other schools to; develop school improvement plans, prioritise CPD, establish quality early years provision, develop leaders and embed whole school approach to behaviour.
